Disabilities

We have created some broad disability classifications, this has been done to make life easier for everyone. As a customer, you wouldn’t want to have to trawl through a long list of disabilities searching for your specific disability and for us, it would be a major headache to try and maintain such a list accurately.

This page has been created to elaborate on the classifications and give a little more guidance as to what kinds of disability may be covered by a given classification. If you are affected by multiple disabilities, we would always ask that you give us a call to make sure that a Gift Experience is suitable for you or a loved one.

  • Hard of Hearing/Deaf

This classification covers anyone who has a loss of hearing and requires at the very least a hearing aid to enable them to hear speech. We recognise that a loss of hearing doesn’t necessarily mean that you cannot partake in any normal mainstream activity. We do, however, recognise that for some activities, it may be necessary to do things a little differently to accommodate the lack of hearing.
An example of this would be in white water rafting: normally you would need to listen for and follow instructions from the raft instructor at the rear of the raft. If you are at the front of the raft, you will quite likely not be able to hear them, you will be unable to lip read as you focus on what’s ahead and they will not be able to give any hand signals to help. For this reason, we would select your position in the raft such that the instructor is able to give hand gestures to you. We consider the practicalities of the gift experiences that we offer and ensures that the experience operators are able to accommodate the necessary adaptions.

  • Restricted - Arm

This classification covers anyone that suffers from restricted arm movement, ranging from single or double amputees to paralysis of one or both arms or any other disability that restricts the use or movement of one or both arms. Please be aware that on some gift experience descriptions, there may be an additional note regarding suitability for the variations within this category.

  • Restricted - Leg

This classification is intended to cover anyone that suffers from restricted leg movement. This could be single or double amputees, paralysis of one or both legs or any other disability that restricts the use or movement of one or both legs. Please be aware that on some gift experience descriptions, there may be an additional note regarding suitability for the variations within this category.

  • Visually Impaired

This classification is for anyone that has a visual impairment of any kind. If you are registered blind or partially sighted, you will fall within this classification. Even if you are not registered Blind or Partially Sighted, but do have very poor eyesight, then this classification is for you!

Note: Some extreme sports may have an adverse effect on the eye health of certain individuals. If you are in any doubt about your suitability to take part in an experience, you should seek medical advice prior to making your purchase.
